      Position: Part-time Summer Camp Teacher

      Department: Education

      Immediate Supervisor: Education Enrichment Coordinator

      Status: Non-Exempt/Contracted/Part-Time

      Hours: Variable Hours/Week

      Rate: $18-$20/ per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

      This position is not eligible for major medical or additional benefits.

      Position Purpose:

      A summer camp teacher is responsible for leading classroom STEAM activities for participants enrolled in the “Science is Everywhere” summer day camp at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History for children in Pre-K through rising 6th grade.

      Responsibilities:

      • Participate fully in week-long camp classes. Monday-Friday of chosen weeks.
      • Create and implement week-long lesson plans aligned with STEAM concepts.
      • Manage class resources, creating lists of supplies needed to implement the camps chosen to teach.
      • Report all accidents/incidents to the Education leadership team.
      • Maintain a classroom climate that nurtures and supports an informal and fun learning environment.
      • Supervise camp counselors and CIT assigned to assist with each camp.
      • Ensure campers’ safety during classroom and off-campus activities.
      • Utilize help from teen Counselors in Training (CIT) and Camp Counselors.
      • Monitor and assist with snack breaks.
      • Monitor and assist with lunch.
      • Monitor and assist weekly off-campus field trips.
      • Attend the program orientation meeting (May 17th) and one post-camp meeting (TBD).
      • Report to the Education Enrichment Coordinator.

      Schedule:

      There are ten camp weeks (three different camps per week with varying student age ranges) for the 2024 summer camp season, which begins on June 2, 2025. We seek educators to facilitate one or more of these camps. Once chosen, teachers are expected to facilitate their week-long class. Days begin at 8:00 am and end at 4:00 pm, including setup and cleanup, Monday – Friday. Teachers will be compensated for 3-5 hours of planning time/camp day facilitated in addition to the week-long session.

      Qualifications:

      Candidate must have two or more years of education experience working with either elementary or middle school students. The candidate is always expected to be professional and must support and practice imaginative, engaging, and learner-centered education. The candidate must be able to work individually, collaboratively, and in a team environment.
