Renovations Begin on Little Albert's Lab to Enhance STEM Education

[ALBUQUERQUE, NM] The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is announcing the temporary closure of its hands-on STEM exhibition, Little Albert’s Lab, as renovation work is underway. The project, funded by the Museum’s Board of Trustees, will transform the space into a more accessible, hands-on, and engaging space for STEM enthusiasts, young and old, and is slated to reopen in early 2026.

This significant refresh and expansion will solidify the Museum’s commitment to high-quality, foundational STEM education. Upon reopening, the exhibit will not only feature updated versions of visitor-favorite activities but will also introduce an exciting expansion, including 14 new interactive exhibits commissioned from the renowned Artisans of Florence.

These specialized new stations will focus on core mechanics and engineering concepts, offering children and adults engaging ways to experiment with gears, pulleys, bridges, scales, and wheels.

“The temporary closure of Little Albert’s Lab is the necessary first step in building a world-class exhibit that will serve our community for years to come,” said Jennifer Hayden, President and CEO of the Museum. “We are profoundly grateful to our Board of Trustees for funding this renovation. Their support demonstrates a shared commitment to investing in the next generation of problem-solvers by enhancing one of the Museum’s most popular hands-on experiences.”

While Little Albert’s Lab is under construction, the rest of the museum remains open and fully operational, offering numerous opportunities for discovery across other exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to follow the Museum’s social media channels for regular "sneak peeks" and progress updates throughout the renovation period.
